Winter is here!

Even though I have come to expect the temperature changes our little country can go through, I’m always a little surprised still to find that we can go from rainy and boringly grey weather with temperatures of +10, to all of a sudden temperatures of -10 and snow and ice..
Visually, I will always prefer the last one. I love snow. I just think it makes the world a prettier place. The downside of this weather is the traffic chaos it creates. Last Tuesday was the worst as it was constant snowfall which led to the longest traffic jam in history! And one I was in too. I had a photo shoot planned in Est which is normally about an hour drive and it took me a total of 2,5 hours to get there.
But then again look at this pretty picture I took with my iPhone yesterday. I needed to do some grocery shopping and since I lately try and walk everywhere I go I was on foot when I saw this walking across the bridge. Just gorgeous!
Temperatures are staying below zero also during the day so the snow that fell stays. People are already starting to talk about the Elfstede tocht which is an elusive ice skating tour on natural ice and goes through 11 cities in the north of Holland, but the ice has to be thick enough to hold thousands of people so you can see how it is important to be solidly frozen.
How’s the weather in your part of the world?

  1. Yo uwalk everwhere? That is incredible….I bet you see so many beautiful things that you would never see whizzing by in a car!

If I even tried to walk to the closest store it would take a very long time….I wish we lived closer to something other than other houses :)

    • There is a downside to being able to walk everywhere I guess… Our houses are way closer together then I have ever seen in the US. less space, but yeah, the advantage is that most of the stuff we need on a daily basis is within walking distance!

  2. Gorgeous photo. Your iphone takes better photos than my iphone. :)
