Before we get off on the wrong foot; I love pinterest. I think it is a brilliant way to look for inspiration, collect ideas and share them with whoever is interested. But over the past couple of weeks I’ve come to the conclusion that finding the original source of an image can be downright impossible. Whenever I pin something I see on someone website I make sure the source is credited and I usually put the name of the photographer in the comment field where appropriate.

Now it became a bit of a thing when I tried to find the source of the image you see above. I found it in the end but I do think it should not be so hard. I saw the image on someone’s pinboard and traced it back through a variety of tumblr blogs and after what felt like an eternity I found this image with the watermark on it. Which clearly mentions the correct source. It comes from a Polish (I think it is Polish but I’m not sure) food photographer with some pretty gorgeous images on her site. If I understand Google translate correctly (which is scary from Polish to English i can tell you!) her husband takes the photos and she cooks. Something like that.
Now I don’t know about you but when I repin something I don’t always go back and check if the source is correct. I only do that when I want to write a little bit about it because I love the image or because it is fitting within a post. And because I hate stealing photos crediting the right source is important to me unless I have bought the image from a stocksite. In case you were wondering; I do that too. Those are usually the illustrations or the cut out images you see.
But I think everyone who pins from the original source should make it a habit to make sure the correct linking is taking place. That’s the only way to know for sure that the creator is credited for his or her image! It appears also to me that the Tumblr sites are the ones where the issue most often occurs due to countless reblogs!
I stumbled upon many images of myself that were being reblogged on tumblr without ever mentioning the photo was taken by me. I really don’t mind people using my images on their blogs as long as it is properly credited and I think the same should be true for pinterest.
What’s your take on this? How do you feel about showing pinterest images on your blog? I’m strongly inclined to not do it anymore…

Yes, Asia blogger from Kwestia Smaku is Polish. She cooks and style the food and her husband is taking photos. So you manage to understand everything clearly.
Pintrest is great as well as internet, but I think the best way to go is just add photos to your blog from somebodies blog when you contacted them before.
Thanks for checking on the translation Magda and I think I agree with you. That’s the whole reason I’ve been very reluctant using the pinterest images and was wondering how anyone else handles it. Thanks for your input!
Currently I only show on the sidebar of my blog some pins from my pinterest boards in which I collect recipes from other bloggers I want to try out or I just have tried out and all these photos are pinned directly from the origin blogs so that a visitor can easily visit these blogs. Somehow it is like an illustrated blog roll. But in my posts I do not use any other photos than mine unless I have got the permission from the author. There I absolutely agree with you and Magda!
Yep, sounds like the only way to go forward with that..
I agree with you that tumbler is creating photo credit issues. I often click on the original source when I pin and many times I can find the original source because it seems that the pins I repin were taken directly from blogs. However, sometimes I do encounter tumbler websites and in that case, I don’t find out the original source and that can be frustrating. Tumbler blogs and reblogging seem a bit confusing to me, too.
