The healthy update – January

I bet you thought I had already given up our quest for a healthy lifestyle but nothing is further from the truth… So I figured I give you a little breakdown of what we have done in the month of January to get healthier and what results I got… Cause let’s face it; I do want to loose some weight alongside the getting healthy part!

So the results for January:

  • Lost 4 kilo in total
  • Walked the grand total of 243 kilometer in January (this is the total that my Fitbit has registered and included the ‘normal’ walking you do every day)
  • We walked an hour extra each day (missed two days in January due to a sprained muscle) after dinner
  • We had a healthy meal most days of the month. We did drank the occassional glass of wine in the weekend, which I think is perfectly fine!
  • Had only four days where it didn’t go so well… :)

Pretty good, if I say so myself. The weight loss is not going fast (although 4 kilo in four weeks is pretty good but it’s the beginning) but that is fine too. It didn’t appear overnight, so it is safe to assume that to lose it in a healthy way, it will take some time and effort too.

We’re loving the daily walks! It’s not only that extra hour each day but I walk everywhere these days. If I need to buy something at the supermarket I walk there. I can choose which supermarket to pick so depending on the weather I will go for the long walk or the short walk. The short one is 400 meters from my house, the long one is 900 meters. So that is either roughly a kilometer or two extra. Whenever I have the chance at home, I take a couple of extra stairs. On a particularly rainy day I managed to walk up and down the stairs 50 times. And believe me… you do feel that the next day too!

It’s become fun to think of ways I can move more and at least get my 10.000 steps each day (which equals roughly 8 km a day) But since we will be on holiday this month, it’s gonna be interesting to find out what effect that will have on everything…. I have high hopes! In either case I am not gonna sweat about it (with 35 C I’m pretty sure I will sweat anyway! Ha!)
