In case you’re starting to get worried why it is all of a sudden so silent here… I’m still alive…
I’ve just been busy cleaning up my iMac and then – as we speak – reformatting the whole thing and doing a clean install of the new Mountain Lion.
And since that involves a lot of waiting, I figured I might as well write a little something here. Thank god for IPad !
The thing is I am used to doing a format with bootable discs. You know, the ones you get with your shiny new machine. However, with the newer versions of Mac that is not the case. You basically download the software from the net directly and it installs. Works like a charm.
Unless you really want to start from scratch such as me. I tend to collect so much ‘noise’ on my machines that it does make sense every once in a while to just delete the whole thing and start fresh.
In this case however I was totally surprised that after the new install all the old crap was still there” turns out I needed to make a boot disc first. Sigh. Ofcourse that meant going to the store first as I didn’t have one large enough to hold all the data. But it’s burning now and almost finished so then I can hopefully continue and wipe the hard drive clean!
In the meantime how is everyone doing with Christmas prep? I’m terrible at the moment and it is freaking me out a little bit that it is Christmas NEXT WEEK! Maybe I should have been thinking about Christmas dinner instead of formatting my computer!

Haha, this panic that it’s Christmas next Monday and I haven’t accomplished what I wanted until now…I share it! ;o) But sitting here and knowing what is on my list and sitting here anyway reading and typing is kind of ironic. So I kick myself in the butt now and start ..hopefully! ;o)
Oh and the formatting process, I think it’s good you do it now and can start with a fresh mac in 2013, nothing technical to be done then and room for lots of other good intentions!
Oh… and I just spent this evening discussing with my boyfriend, how I could simplify in future my backup process for all my datas…. means also here computer stuff instead of Christmas stuff…. at least for the moment
You should try either Timemachine or Carbon Copy Cloner. I just started using the last one and it is really easy to use. Backups are scheduled every night to two separate disks (since harddrives can crash too as I have found out..) and it’s pretty flawless so far!
Thanks a lot for these tips!!!
