Remember when I told you that it’s a bad bad idea to check your stats every 5 minutes when you just started a blog? You remember right? And you’re following that rule to the letter, right? Right? Well…. (followed by long deep silence)… I have a confession to make… I cannot help it. But I DO check my stats. Not every 5 seconds but certainly once every day. Not of my other blog but this one…. It just seems the natural thing to do. Are people liking the new blog? Do they hate it? Is it crap or is it good? I just don’t know!! And it’s driving me insane. So I try and read the stats. See what pages or posts are visited more and why. (not that you can tell the why from looking at your stats but still… I can try, right?)
And then it occurred to me that you are a fickle bunch of people…. As long as I write every day the stats go up and down but at a fairly constant rate, but forget to write for one day and beng…. your stats hit rock bottom… And that is making me a little sad… Just a tiny bit but still… I love this new little blog of mine and technically it is doing tremendously well for a blog that is only 1 month old. I think I probably had zero comments on Junglefrog Cooking after one month. But o that impatience… So you start thinking; what does it matter that no one reads it? Why would it matter that no one likes it? You started a blog for yourself, so technically you should still be happy even if no one ever read it. But the truth of the matter is, that is just not entirely true.
I could lie to you and tell you that stats don’t matter. In the grand scheme of things they don’t but everyone likes a little bit of recognition I guess. I little token that someone, somewhere out there, things you’re doing something nice. Something that contributes to the digital mayhem out there. That still does not mean we should all be checking our stats every day. Maybe we should all agree that once a month is enough. Seriously….

It’s like a compulsion to check my stats….and I go through the same thing. If I have a great day then I am in a great mood, and the days where my mom is the only visitor well…I need a pepe talk those days.
And I always try to remind myself that I am not doing it for the stats, but for some reason I still check them…every day. I wish I could ban myself haha. Really though, I would rather have ten readers who are interactive and comment and I have realtionships with than one hundred followers that just read what you have to say and scoot outta there.
Great post….I love your new blog. And I am sure your stats would put mine to shame so chin up
Not sure if my stats would put yours to shame Christina! Love your blog too… Learning all sorts of fun new stuff plus I can’t wait to see when the shark will hatch ( hopefully)
I uninstalled my wordpress stats plugin and only use google anslytics. Having to remember visiting and signing in to a separate website to check my stats has resulted in me checking much less often.
Hmm yes that sounds like a very sensible thing to do. But then I won’t be able to see my stats everyday anymore. Lol. I guess it will at some point stop. I’m not that obsessive with junglefrog cooking. It’s the newness of this baby that does it!
I am right there with you! Except I’ve never been on top of things enough to post daily! I enjoy your blog – keep it up!
Thanks so much JoAnna. Glad your liking it!
This really made me smile. I think checking our stats is what all of us do – if we admit it or not. We want to be heard and liked. I think it’s kind of natural. I like your style and content( both blogs) and I think your doing amazingly well. That’s what counts! Have a lovely weekend…will drop by a few thimes this weekend to increase your traffic
O yay!! See that’s what I need.. People that keep checking in so my numbers will grow. Lol. Thanks so much Jasmin and you’re right I think a lot of us are the same really!
It reminds me someone… I used to do so on my first blog and I know I will again when I will launch my new one
Don’t worry, the address of your new blog is in my favorite and I visit you regularly. I like your blog, it is different and it is personal.
Thanks so much Sandrine and am I hearing you’re about to start a new blog? Tell me, tell me!
Oui, oui! I am still working on the structure of the blog and I am so perfectionist that it is driving me crazy! Food and travels will be involved… I will invite you for the grand opening…
O exciting! Can’t wait to hear more about it!
I love your blog Simone! In fact I read this one more than your other one. I used to check my stats every day when I first started my blog a year ago and right up until recently I did, but now, I think I’m too busy trying to write more posts that I forget to check my stats, now I look like once a week or maybe once a fortnight. To be honest I don’t really understand them anyway and they are different on each stat counter I look on!!
In all honesty I find the comments matter to me more. If no one comments I feel sad, if I get lots of comments I know I’m doing something right
You’re so right Anna. It is indeed the comments more then anything. Even on my other blog it sometimes happens that the stats are high but there are no comments. That just drives bananas…
glad you like my blog though!
